The Association des conservateurs des musées du Nord-Pas de Calais (Nord-Pas de Calais Museum Curators Association) is a professional network of 50 curators and assistant curators, a region containing over 45 Musées de France approved museums and around 1 200 000 visitors per year to all the museums in the network (2011 figures)

► Almost 40 years' experience in large scale projects such as Les Beffrois de la Culture in 2004, Feuille à Feuille in 2006 and dessiner-tracer in 2011.

► Promoting the region's rich and varied heritage (fine art, modern art, contemporary art, science and technology, natural history, archaeology, European and non-European ethnology, etc.) through joint exhibitions: inventory of the collections per theme, physical and virtual exhibitions and presentations throughout the region.

► Website at www.musenor.com, indicating what's on in over 45 museums and containing a database of 30 thousand works, virtual exhibitions, visual analyses and resources for professionals.

Founded in 1975, the initial aim of Association des conservateurs des musées du Nord-Pas de Calais was to serve as a forum for the region's museum curators and allow them to join forces to strengthen their position on the cultural, political and public scene. In recent years, the Association has, alongside its partners in political, cultural and tourism organizations, actively contributed to the strong momentum behind the cultural and museum activities of the Nord-Pas de Calais.

Purpose of a network of museums in the Nord-Pas de Calais ?

  • Foster the sharing of ideas and synergies between curators with a view to organizing joint actions between museums.
  • Promote the richness, diversity and complementarity of the region's museums and their collections.
  • Affirm the identity of the Nord-Pas de Calais as a "land of museums" and encourage visitors to take advantage of all the museums on offer in the region.
  • Share resources (human, technical and financial) for promoting the collections; this includes digitization, exhibitions, public relations, events.
  • Provide a focal point for institutional, tourism and economic players wishing to involve museums in their projects.

The main goals of Association des conservateurs des musées du Nord-Pas de Calais are to:

  • Enhance the collections of the Nord-Pas de Calais
  • Promote museums and their exhibitions
  • Aid in audience development
  • Manage a network of professionals and put in place joint and cooperative actions
  • Represent the profession in contacts with public and private bodies.

The Curators Association is recognized and supported by state organizations (Ministry of Culture and Communication, DRAC, Musées de France Directorate, Conseil régional du Nord-Pas de Calais, Conseil général du Nord, Conseil général du Pas de Calais, European Community, Roubaix town council, the department of education) and by private patrons. It also works in close cooperation with a number of organizations promoting tourism (Comité Régional du Tourisme, CDT Nord and CDT Pas de Calais) and the arts in the Euro-region.

The Curators Association is represented by a board of ten curators elected for a 2 year term. The board works in close cooperation with representatives of the political and economic world, tourist organizations and educational and social institutions. It also has a permanent team of salaried workers.
